Tones travel up to 2000 feet (609.6 m), depending on whether the cable is a continuous run or if it connects to punchdown blocks, patch panels, or wallplates. • The pen-size Network Tone Probe, an inductive receiver, emits its locator tone when it touches the tip of the wire or even just the jacket. • Use the Network Probe to trace the tone through the cable, wiring bundle, and wiring closet. Locate the other end of the cable when the Network Tone Generator applies a tone through the cable.
